FlowLogic Geolocation Services

FlowLogic uses Geolocation services to keep a track of Staff Location for Timesheet Management and Security purposes. This is often seen in the Maps as displayed on the Staff Timesheets, and can be accessed through the Geo Logs, under the Logs icon.

Geolocation Methods

Below is a description of the various ways FlowLogic can try to determine a user’s location.

  • GPS: This uses satellites and knows your location within a few metres.
  • WiFi: The location of nearby WiFi networks helps FlowLogic know where you are within a few hundred metres.
  • Phone Tower: Your connection to a mobile network can be accurate up to a few kilometres.
  • I.P. Address: The street address of your company’s fixed internet connection can be stored in FlowLogic’s settings.

Devices

Devices with GPS capabilities will generally give the most consistent and accurate geolocation results.
Examples of GPS capable devices are:

  • Smartphones (mobile phones).
  • Most tablets and iPads with a SIM card slot.

Examples of devices that do not typically include GPS capabilities are:

  • Tablets and iPads without a SIM card slot.
  • Laptop computers.
  • Desktop computers.

Device Settings

GPS Accuracy: Most GPS capable devices will have settings to control the accuracy of geolocation requests made by Apps and websites. These settings are primarily used to manage device battery life as GPS-based geolocation will use more battery power than other, less accurate, methods. Use of the highest accuracy setting available is recommended where possible.

Location Cache: Most mobile phones will cache geolocation results in order to conserve battery. This cached result is usually used until your phone detects a change in mobile phone tower or WIFI network.

Browser “Location” Settings: Web browsers will alert users if a website is trying to determine their location. Users can choose to allow or block the site from knowing this information.

Default Location: On some Desktop and Laptop devices, a default location can be set in the Devices settings, that will be used as the default for Geolocation Services. Consult the Help for your operating system for Instructions on how to set the Default Location for your device.

Registered Locations

FlowLogic can be configured to associate a home or office internet connection with a street address. This option is only available if the location’s internet connection uses a static I.P. address – please contact your internet service provider (ISP) to confirm if the internet connection in question uses a static I.P.

To register your home or office location, please send the following details through to support@datanova.com.au:

  • The location’s full street address
  • The internet connection’s static I.P. address
